TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION CHAIN

We make sure food fills up your tummy, not the landfill.

About Us

Kilang ReRoot was founded in 2020 by a team of local eco-enthusiasts. We started as a grant recipient for the 2021 YSEALI Seeds for the Future and eventually grew to be a social enterprise.

“Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution” – Maddy Khan

We aim to raise awareness and help tackle food waste in Brunei Darussalam. Why food? Because it’s something that we all love and yet waste so much of. Did you know that decomposing food produces methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to the rise of global temperature? Plus, it doesn’t make any sense to waste food when people are struggling to put food to the table.

We stand by and aim to work in alignment with the three pillars of sustainability – environment, society and economy. That’s why we collaborate with various sectors in the community and help create opportunities for local businesses in our efforts to tackle the food waste issue.

Our Mission

We strive to build a dynamic and innovative community in minimising food waste, promote waste recovery and adopt sustainable practices towards a healthy, green lifestyle.

Our Vision

We envision a Brunei Darussalam that is sustainable and environmentally conscious of the food chain – from production, consumption and waste recovery.

Our Past Projects

This is a hands-on class where participants learn how to create their own bag using the ancient art of macrame using recycled materials.

During the workshop, participants were guided through the process of creating a macrame bag, including knotting techniques, pattern designs, and finishing touches. All the necessary recycled materials, such as cords, beads, and handles were provided to produce  a unique, practical and sustainable bag that they can use and show off.

Make Your Own Soap Workshop

The workshop focuses on the upcycling of fruits that would typically go to waste, making it into eco-friendly and sustainable soaps.

During the workshop, participants learned about the benefits of natural soap making, including the advantages of using fruit extracts and essential oils. They were also taught the basic principles of soap making, such as the correct temperature and mixing methods.

By the end of the workshop, participants have created their unique soaps, which they can take home and use or gift to friends and family.

Sew Your Own Tote Bag Workshop

During the workshop, participants learned the basics of sewing, including measuring, cutting, and stitching. At the end of the workshop, they have transformed their old clothes, such as shirts or jeans, into a durable and practical tote bag that can be used for shopping, carrying books or even as a fashion accessory.
